Question: I installed Windows XP x64 Edition on a system which is built by an Intel EM64T CPU and 4 GB memory on 775i915P-SATA2 / 775i65PE / 775V88+ / 775V88. Windows reports system memory about 3.0 - 3.5 GB. Why?(12/19/2005) Answer: Although the CPU and Operating system supports 64 bit addressing, Intel 915P, 865PE and VIA PT880 chipsets does not support remapping function. The missing memory addresses are reserved for PCI I/O space, AGP aperture mapping space, and other onboard device I/O space. Although the chipset datasheet may claim memory support up to 4 GB, the system actually only reports about 3.0 - 3.5 GB with four 1 GB DDR memory modules.

Question: I have an ASRock INTEL ICH5 south bridge based motherboard (P4i65GV, P4i48..). In BIOS setup---IDE Configuration---Onboard IDE Operate Mode, there are two options "Enhanced Mode" and "Compatible Mode". Which one should I select? What is the difference between them?(7/12/2004) Answer: Please select [Compatible Mode] if you are using legacy OS (Windows ME / 98SE) with both IDE and SATA devices. If you are using legacy OS (Windows ME / 98SE) with IDE device only, please select [Enhanced Mode]. If native OS (Windows 2000 / XP) is used, please select [Enhanced Mode] no matter you are using either IDE and SATA devices or IDE device only.
When [Enhanced Mode] is selected, the next option will be "OnBoard IDE Controller".
You may enable either the primary IDE channel or the secondary IDE channel. Or you may enable both the primary and the secondary IDE channels by selecting [Both]. Set to [Disabled] will disable the both. Configuration options: [Disabled], [Primary], [Secondary], [Both].
When [Compatible Mode] is selected, the next option will be "Combined Mode Option".

Question: How do I enable the Athlon 64 Processor's "Cool'n Quiet" throttling functionality on K8S8X?(5/15/2004) Answer: Please install AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor Driver under O/S. Enabling Cool'n Quiet involves installing a software package in the case of Windows ME and 2000 or a processor driver in the case of Windows XP. Once installed, the power management settings can be configured through the Control Panel. In the case of an Athlon 64 CPU, the CPU will run at slow speed when there is minimal loading. Additionally, the CPU core voltage is reduced to low voltage also. When the loading increases, the clock frequency will be increased in increments of the CPU speed, depending upon the load.
Question: My hard drive is 160 GB, when I install Windows 2000 or Windows XP, I can only see 137 GB. However, when I install this 160 GB hard drive on the ATA 133 RAID card, I can use whole 160 GB. Question: When I play some video or audio media files through my IDE optical devices (CD-ROM and DVD-ROM). I feel that the video/audio playback is not smooth. What should I do?(2/17/2004) Answer: It might be that the CDROM is transferring in PIO mode instead of DMA mode. Please follow the bellow procedure to enable DMA mode.
In Windows 2000/XP, assuming that your IDE optical device is connected on secondary IDE channel as master drive,
Right click the "My computer" icon, select "Properties". Then, select "Hardware"----"Device Manager".
In "Device Manager", select "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"----double click "Secondary IDE Channel".
In "Secondary IDE Channel Properties", select "Advance Settings" and adjust the "Transfer Mode" of the CDROM (Device 0) from "PIO Only" to "DMA if available".
Click "OK".
In Windows 98SE/ME,
Right click the "My computer" icon, select "Properties". Then, select "Device Manager".
In "Device Manager", double click "CDROM". Then, double click your optical device under "CDROM".
In the new window which displays the optical device properties, select "Settings". Then, check the "DMA" box in "Options".
